Human-Dog Relationship Therapist
Thank you for visiting my website. In the picture to the left, you can see me, Vivian Zottola, and my rescue dog friend, Boy George. He came into my life when I least expected it. Sound familiar? Yes, I fell hard, instantly in love and knew he was the one when evaluating him at a shelter. That was ten years ago and lots of learning and ongoing communication and management in between. Dogs are amazing friends, and living with them is truly an honor. Being a guardian is as much a blessing as it is a responsibility. One I take very seriously because my four legged friend's life depends on it. When deciding to bring a dog friend into our home and family, we expect our relationship to go well instantaneously and are often surprised by some of the things they do. It's not always easy living with dogs because, well, ..fundamentally, we are different animals interpreting the world and communicating intentions in ways that are misunderstood by both parties. If you are experiencing problems with your dog, I am here to help.
With over twenty years of expertise in anthrozoology consulting, I'm often called a 'human-dog relationship therapist'. Veterinarians refer me and people hire me for various reasons. They may have an adolescent dog that "doesn't listen", adult dog that jumps and mouths, puppy that nips, dog that growls and has bitten. I have extensive experience in working with caregivers and dogs of all breed types at every stage of life, and from various upbringing. I have worked with dogs bred by responsible breeders, commercial and puppy mill breeders, temporary foster system (rescue, shelter), and street dogs. Each circumstance is different and clients unique. Essentially I help people if they call me early to help prevent behavior problems from developing and if a challenge has developed, I work with them to resolve and improve strained relationships. Arriving at solutions is not always simple, and the road is sometimes bumpy; however, the friendships and collaborations I've formed on every journey have been heartwarming. Working with people and their dogs has made me a better professional and human being. I am always deeply honored when veterinarians and clients recommend my services to others. Referrals are indeed the best compliment I can receive. I look forward to assisting you.
