Communication & Body Language
Observing what your dog is saying through their body language will not only aid in communicating but also keep everyone safe. Below is a detailed explanation of Canine Body Language that I like from the ASPCA, to the right is Dr. Sophia Yin Body Language of Fear in Dogs and below the DoggoneSafe chart. Download and put them up on the fridge in your home to remind everyone what are dogs are saying to us through their body language.

In this presentation Dr. Patricia McConnell a Dog Behaviorist gives a detailed explanation of how sound affects our dogs and why "acoustic marking" clicker training works better than voice. |
Physical and Mental Exercise:
This document covers the basics of Clicker Training and how dogs learn. I've included an exercise plan you and your roommates can use to ensure your dog is getting BOTH physical AND mental stimulation. Exercise is key to a calm happy dog. Remember dogs are emotional beings that are curious and get bored. Make certain your dog is safe and give them something to do including exercise and mental stimulation. If we don't give our dogs something to do they will find something to do and its usually something that gets them in trouble! |

Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT)
Caution: BAT is a technique that helps dogs reduce their emotional reactions toward things/places/people/dogs. It requires advanced handling and observational skills and it is recommended you work with a trained professional dog behavior trainer to learn and understand the process. On average it takes a minimum of 10 set ups/sessions to begin seeing positive changes however each individual is different and learning, healing varies. Preparing beforehand with stress reducing essential oils and flower essence, ensuring the right equipment and reducing your own anxiety and expectations affects outcome. Patience is of utmost importance.
