Behavior Training & Rehabilitation
Behavior modification or rehabilitation training is a very involved but rewarding process. Depending on the severity of the behavior it may require having a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine prescribe a low dosage medication in order to help your pet focus. Your commitment and lifestyle change is necessary and success is measured in baby steps. As Dr. Sophia Yin, DVM, MS says, .."Although aggressive behavior can be modified in a huge range of cases, behavior modification is not like fixing a clock or a television set where you make a few changes and then it’s good for another five years. Dogs are living animals and behavior is something you can never guarantee 100%." Amen. So while a qualified trainer can help teach you how to manage or reduce the reactive behavior in social settings, its critical to first and foremost have your pet evaluated by a vet to ensure there is no underlying medical problems.
